How to Fix your Bad Credit Rating
Have you messed up with your credit rating? Don’t give up hope, you can fix it!
If you are like most of the world, you don’t even know your credit is getting bad until it already is. You think you’re doing okay, and the car salesman tells you otherwise. Today, we’re going to show you how to fix your credit after it has gone bad.
The first step is to get your credit report. Go online to the free annual credit report site and download a copy. Then, you can see what’s good and what’s bad on it. Some of the bad stuff may be erroneous and you can dispute those charges.
If the negative reports are debt you actually owe, you’re going to have to pay them. There’s really no way around it. Take care of the high interest loans and credit cards first. Then work on the smaller ones. It’s a good idea to make payment arrangements with the company or debt collector. This can sometimes knock half the bill down in one shot. Just make sure you keep your end of the bargain. Then get a letter from them stating it’s paid in full.
You can go through a non-profit debt consolidator if your debt is too large. It’s important to pick the right debt consolidation company. The non-profit companies don’t charge you anything. Consumer Credit Counseling is one of the best in the business. They work with all the large creditors to get special rates and bring your payments down. You also only have to deal with one bill. This really helps out when you have trouble keeping track.
Avoid bankruptcy unless there are no other options. This really destroys your credit score. The bankruptcy will also raise the rates at which you have to repay any loan you do get. Most lenders say they won’t even touch a person for two years after a bankruptcy.
