Help with Choosing a Bank of Queensland Credit Card

With a comparatively limited range of credit cards to choose from, finding the right one from the Bank of Queensland is much easier than with other companies. Every card has unique benefits and features that allow it to stand out in a crowded industry.

Choosing a Bank of Queensland credit card comes down to one question: which one is right for your financial situation? Your options include: Platinum Visa, Gold Visa, Low Rate Visa, and Blue Visa. As you attempt to choose your next card, these three questions can guide you in the right direction.

  • Are there any special offers to take advantage of? – For example, BOQ’s Platinum Visa often has special purchase rates while the Gold Visa is better known for its low rate balance transfer offers.
  • Is the maximum credit limit important to you? – Some people use their credit card more than others. On the low end, the Low Rate and Blue Visa have a maximum credit line of $25,000. The Platinum Visa is on the high end, with a maximum of $35,000.
  • Is there a rewards program? – Of the four cards offered by Bank of Queensland, the only one without a rewards program is the Low Rate Visa.

Pros

  • Low minimum income requirements – While some credit cards require that you earn a lot of money to apply, those from Bank of Queensland generally do not.
  • Top of the line rewards program – For every dollar spent (excluding the Low Rate Visa) you will receive Q Rewards points. The bank’s rewards program is actually very generous compared with those of other banks.
  • Additional features – These include: worldwide acceptance, 24/7 EasyPhone and internet banking, purchase cover insurance, emergency card replacement within 24 hours, and complimentary international travel insurance.

Cons

  • Annual fee – No matter which card you choose, chances are you’ll be charged an annual fee. The Platinum Visa annual fee is the highest and the Low Rate card’s is the lowest. Compared with the fees charged by other banks, these are actually very competitive.
  • Special offers only last so long – Once your special introductory rate expires, you can expect an average or above average interest rate. Having said that, the exact same happens with every other credit card with an introductory offer on balance transfers or purchases. It is worth comparing what the interest rate will be after the introductory offer expires, as there can be quite a difference.
